Martin Luther King was a powerful leader in human rights in the United States in the 1960s. While his cause was associated with African-Americans and the Quest for rights , his message was one for all mankind. In 1964, he received a Nobel Peace prize for his valiant efforts. He was an eloquent speaker who preferred peaceful coexistent to violet rebellion.
Ironically, despite his pleas for peace, he was brutally murdered on April 4, 1968 in Memphis . Rather than celebrate his assassination as might be done in other cultures, his birthday is commemorated as a cultural recognition of his plea for life.
Just as his life was nobel, his speeches are moving and inspirational to people of all colors and creeds.
