On October 24, 1945, the majority of nations adopted the charter thus forming the United Nations. The formation of the United Nations was evolutionary from a number of other events including the Atlantic Charter, Food and Agriculture Organization, Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, Moscow Declaration, and others. Its peacekeeping purpose was formulated during the Dumbarton Oaks Conference in 1944 with the mass adoption on October 24, 1945.
While the key objective of the United Nations is "to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war," it has also been instrumental in coping with hunger, desease, illiteracy, and poverty around the world. Today, societies have become so dependent on its international neighbors, the United Nations' charter is even more important in fostering international cooperation and understanding. |
